Restoring Essential Heating for a Residential Development in Gateshead

When a residential building in Gateshead lost heating during the winter months, a fast, reliable, and quiet temporary solution was critical. This project demonstrates how a single high‑capacity heat pump restored heating across the entire development, maximised performance within limited power availability, and laid the foundation for a long‑term system upgrade.

CHALLENGE

Provide an immediate temporary cooling solution following the failure of a critical process chiller, preventing disruption to snack food production while maintaining strict hygiene and product quality standards.

SOLUTION

  • Daikin Rental Solutions rapidly supplied and commissioned a compact air-cooled rental chiller, complete with turnkey installation and quick-connect flexible hoses, restoring process cooling within hours.

RESULT

  • Reliable cooling was maintained throughout production, protecting product quality and preventing costly downtime. The success of the project has led the client to consider repeat hires for future production requirements.
 CLIENT SECTOR: RESIDENTIAL
 LOCATION:  GATESHEAD , UNITED KINGDOM

A residential apartment development in Gateshead experienced a severe heating outage after multiple heat pump failures left the building without heating during the winter months. A rapid temporary solution was needed to restore comfort, support resident wellbeing, and ensure the building remained protected during cold weather.

A temporary heating strategy was deployed that could operate within strict electrical limitations while maximising reliability and performance.

Customer Requirements

A residential apartment development required an urgent temporary heating solution after multiple heat pumps failed, leaving residents without heating during the winter months. The replacement system needed to restore heating quickly, maximise performance within a restricted 125 amp electrical supply, operate quietly in an occupied building, and provide a reliable interim solution while a permanent replacement was planned.

Challenges and Expertise

The project required Daikin Rental Solutions to restore heating rapidly while working within the site's limited electrical capacity. Rather than replacing each failed heat pump individually, Daikin engineered a centralised temporary solution using a single high-capacity unit, maximising heating output while reducing complexity, improving reliability and minimising noise for residents in an occupied apartment building.

Daikin Rental Solution

Daikin Rental Solutions supplied and installed a temporary Daikin EWYT 205 air source heat pump, complete with all necessary hoses, fittings and power cabling.

The solution included:

  • 1 × Daikin EWYT 205 air source heat pump
  • Temporary pipework and flexible hose connections
  • Power cabling and ancillary equipment
  • Complete installation and commissioning

The centralised system restored heating efficiently while making the temporary installation easier to monitor and maintain.

Outcome

Heating was successfully restored across the residential apartment development, providing residents with a reliable temporary heating solution throughout the winter period. The centralised system delivered improved efficiency, lower noise levels and greater reliability than the previous installation, while also prompting discussions around a permanent high-efficiency heat pump replacement.
